To celebrate our first anniversary, Modern Rocks Gallery brings you a very special evening showcasing the work of photographer Stephen Wright, the man responsible for possibly the most famous image of 80's icons, The Smiths, taken outside The Salford Lads Club in Manchester for the cover of The Queen Is Dead.
To celebrate we will be having an opening reception on Saturday 18th April from 7pm to 10pm. The event is free. Click on this Eventbrite link for more details.
Modern Rocks Gallery has the honor of being the only in the gallery in the US to stock not only the iconic cover shot, but alternative shots from the shoot, including previously unreleased color images. We also have some early live shots of Morrissey and The Smiths, as well as some of Stephen's other work including live shots of New Order, Madonna, Miles Davis, Prince, John Lydon of Public Image Limited and Bono of U2.
The Smiths and Friends will be on display from Saturday 18th April until Saturday 23rd May.
Thanks to Revolution Spirits, and with the expert help of Mathias at Dozen Street, you'll have a choice of two Smiths themed cocktails to enjoy throughout the evening that Mathias has created just for us.
"THIS CHARMING MAN" consists of Austin Reserve Gin, Temptation Apple and Champagne, all topped off with a flaming lemon slice.
"HANDSOME DEVIL" is made with Austin Reserve Gin, Honey, Lime and spicy Fire and Damnation Bitters.
