Modern Rocks Gallery is proud to bring you a collection of previously unseen live photographs of the legendary Jimi Hendrix, taken in 1969 by Austin photographer, Robert Hewgley.
At the time, Robert was a photography student in Durham, North Carolina. He went to the concert intent on shooting expressive photographs - not snapshots or press photos. Shooting only with available light, Robert truly captured the drama of the event with intense images full of contrast and motion. The concert was one in the last US tour of The Jimi Hendrix Experience and these images could potentially be some of the last new photographs to emerge of Hendrix performing live.
Robert Hewgley has personally processed and printed all of the black and white images by hand here in Austin. The color images have all been printed under his supervision.
To commemorate this exciting world exclusive, Modern Rocks Gallery and Robert Hewgley have collaborated to print sets of strictly limited edition photographs especially for this premiere show, signed and numbered individually by Robert, featuring one color and one black and white triptych, each of which will be limited to 5 copies, printed with the guarantee that they will never again be printed in this format.
