Stevie Ray Vaughan
Stevie Ray Vaughan was an American blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter best known for revitalizing Texas blues in the 1980s with his fiery technique and soulful intensity. With landmark tracks like “Pride and Joy,” “Texas Flood,” and “Crossfire,” Vaughan fused blistering guitar virtuosity with deep emotional expression, blending blues, rock, and jazz influences. His passionate playing, raw vocals, and magnetic stage presence made him a modern blues icon, inspiring generations of musicians before his life was tragically cut short in 1990.

“Stevie Ray Vaughan’s first appearance on the show was fraught with nervous energy, insecurity, and, yes, too much cocaine. Yet the muse cooperated and Stevie gave a landmark performance at the beginning of a brilliant, all-too-short career.”
- 25 Years of American Music, Austin City Limits

Stevie Ray Vaughan by Tracy Anne Hart, taken at the Rights Of Spring Concert, 4th May 1990, Stevie's last show in Austin. This image was used on the back cover of the "Real Deal" CD (see second image)
Photographer's notes: "This was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen-absolutely magnificent. It was the last full Stevie show I photographed, and of course I didn’t realize that at the time. I couldn’t have possibly imagined a better chance to capture him at his best. Shooting it was like floating on a cloud, and it gave me my opportunity to pursue the orgasmic revelation of the ultimate shot, that “just one more” all photographers long for. If I’d never taken another live music photograph after this one of Stevie with his head down, I would have been content with the huge exclamation point it was for my imagery. He created unreal Hendrix sounds in “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)” during this performance, and he’s ripping the final solo out of his Strat in the picture with equal parts finesse and deadly force. Then he was on to glorious tunes off his latest album, “In Step” as well as choice older songs including “Texas Flood” and “Superstition”. The experience was sublime and unforgettable, and it made me so glad to just be there absorbing the music and the sound, signifying everything.

A SET OF TEN 13” X 19” SIGNED LIMITED EDITION PRINTS OF STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN BY TRACY ANNE HART TAKEN BETWEEN 1983-1990
Photographer's notes: This Set consists of ten of my favorite images of SRV from the first show I photographed at Fitzgerald’s in Houston, TX on March 25, 1983 to the last full show on Auditorium Shores in Austin, TX on May 4, 1990. The latter was Vaughan’s last show in his adopted hometown.
I have attempted to represent some of the changes Stevie went through: the guitar slinging kid in the Chinese beer cap given to him by David Bowie in the first shot, the Clint Eastwood hatted tough guy in the next, on to his album release party for his first record, “Texas Flood” and last band appearance at a small club-Fitzgerald’s again- on June 20, 1983. He’s playing a Gibson ES 335 in that picture, not his usual weapon of choice in the mid-eighties. The next photos are two from his first “clean” show in Houston at Sam Houston Coliseum January 31, 1987. Many miles on the road and much of the high and hard life between those last two concerts to be sure! He came back looking and sounding even better than before. On to his show outside that old Wonder of the World, the much debated Houston Astrodome on a typical scorching hot Labor Day weekend, a show that produced several of my all-time favorite photographs ever, especially the close up of his hands. Then that one from the last Vaughan full show I was fortunately able to be at: Auditorium Shores in Austin at the Rites of Spring concert. The intersection of our artistic lives in ten prints.
In keeping with Stevie’s generosity to one of his favorite charities, a percentage of the sales will be donated to the Food Bank.
