An avid music fan and admirer of typography and graphic design, fine art photographer Blaise Hayward began making Tickets Please in March 2023 after walking by a concert hall and noticing people simply displaying a QR code on their phones to enter the show.
For Hayward, the tickets represent a vanishing analog art form and a nostalgia for an iconic era of rock-n-roll.“I look at these tickets as mini works of art: the font selection, the layout, the color, the copy. All done with careful consideration to detail”. Each stub is a fragment of history—their haphazard tears and distinctive creases emblematic of what is widely considered the golden age of music.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and B.B. King stand together backstage before a show in Chicago. BB King opened for the Rolling Stones during their legendary 1969 US Tour.
Already an accomplished Blues musician of more than twenty years, at this point in his career, BB King was beginning to break through to more mainstream audiences, so he gladly accepted the Rolling Stones invitation to perform on their tour.
Soon after the tour, BB King's version of "The Thrill is Gone" was released which reached #3 on the R&B Charts and #15 on the Billboard Top 100. It also won the Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in 1970.

This iconic image of David Bowie as The Thin White Duke was taken by renowned Rock photographer, John Rowlands, on February 26th, 1976, at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Canada. Having seen the previous evening’s show on the 1976 Station To Station tour, Rowlands was primed to capture the image of Bowie as The Archer while the singer was preparing to fire his imaginary bow and arrow. The pose was used as a signal for Bowie's lighting engineer to kill the lights. The picture was taken moments before the lights were killed. Rowlands took the shot about 30 feet away from the stage and he credits his Hasselblad camera for producing an image that is striking in its sharp tonal range of whites, blacks and grays.

“Roger Waters, Roy Harper and Roger’s son Nick, listen to playback. Roy was guest vocalist on Have A Cigar. A friend of David Gilmore, Roy Harper was recording his own album at Abbey Road so popped in to say hello. The band asked him to sing this particular song because it was out of David and Rogers vocal range...or so the story goes.”
