BB King invited photographer Glen Craig to join him at a rehearsal session at the Hit Factory studios in New York City as a familiar face amongst a brand new production crew. Although he had already had many hit singles on the R&B charts at this point in his career, he had not yet achieved big success on the Pop charts. In an effort to remedy this, BB King had recently begun working with Bill Szymczyk, a young producer who was eager to get involved with his music. Szymczyk brought in a new group of session musicians, and their combined effort helped catapult King onto the Pop charts.

When BluesWay Records released "The Thrill Is Gone" as a single in December 1969, it became one of the most successful of King's career and one of his signature songs.

The song reached #3 on the R&B Charts and #15 on the Billboard Top 100. It also won the Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in 1970. It later earned the #183 spot in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 "Greatest Songs of All Time."

BB King tunes his guitar and rehearses while sitting backstage at Madison Square Garden in New York City. On the bill as one of the opening acts for the Rolling Stones during their legendary 1969 US Tour, they each played a total of three shows at the Garden between November 27th & 28th, 1969.

Already an accomplished Blues musician of more than twenty years, at this point in his career, BB King was beginning to break through to more mainstream audiences, so he gladly accepted the Rolling Stones invitation to perform on their tour.
