Edie Baskin isn’t just a photographer; she is the lens through which our cultural memory was formed. A true original and behind-the-scenes visionary, she shaped the look, feel, and attitude of an era.

Best known for her groundbreaking work as the original photographer and title designer for Saturday Night Live, the multiple Emmy-nominated visual storyteller captured the soul of a generation, beginning with the show’s debut in 1975 and continuing for 25 years.

A pop culturist and pioneering creative, Baskin chronicled the rise of iconic personalities and movements, from downtown New York to late-night television, with an intimacy, style, and edge uniquely her own. She is a rare artist who shaped icons without ever commercializing herself.

Baskin developed a signature style defined by hand-tinted photography, merging classical technique with a contemporary, intuitive sensibility. Her images balance precision and spontaneity, capturing subjects in moments that feel both unguarded and subtly performative.

Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Time, Rolling Stone, SoHo News and Vogue, among others. In 2025, she released Live From My Studio: The Art of Edie Baskin (ACC Art Books), named one of the year’s top Indie Books by Kirkus Reviews. Her music photography is featured at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio now through 2027.
