On The Bright Side by Sarah Frankie Linder : Opening Reception

  • Modern Rocks Gallery

"On The Bright Side" is a fresh take on the high-speed art of live music photography by Sarah Frankie Linder.

Using photos taken at music festivals and venues around Austin, TX, Linder allowed the elusiveness of a blurred, auto-focus effect to create the foundation of each image. The color of each was manipulated, while retaining selected elements of the original, resulting in a new, fresh atmosphere captured in time.

By revitalizing these archived photographs in "On the Bright Side,” Linder invites the eye to explore a unique representation of the live music experience that is vibrant, curious, and thought-provoking. The visually stunning collection features Sarah’s alternative views on bands and artists, including Flaming Lips, Depeche Mode, Savages, Smashing Pumpkins, Rush, Black Angels, Atoms for Peace and Patti Smith.

Unseen Hendrix

  • Modern Rocks Gallery

Modern Rocks Gallery is proud to announce that it will be exhibiting a collection of previously unseen live photographs of the legendary Jimi Hendrix, taken in 1969 by Austin photographer, Robert Hewgley. At the time, Robert was a photography student in Durham, North Carolina. He went to the concert intent on shooting expressive photographs - not snapshots or press photos. Shooting only with available light, Robert truly captured the drama of the event with intense images full of contrast and motion. The concert was one in the last US tour of The Jimi Hendrix Experience and these images could potentially be some of the last new photographs to emerge of Hendrix performing live.

Robert Hewgley has personally processed and printed all of the black and white images by hand here in Austin. The color images have all been printed locally under his supervision, and the entire collection has been expertly framed by Artworks.

To commemorate this exciting world exclusive, Modern Rocks Gallery and Robert Hewgley have collaborated to print sets of strictly limited edition photographs especially for this premiere show, signed and numbered individually by Robert. These feature one color and one black and white triptych, each of which will be limited to 5 copies, printed with the guarantee that they will never again be printed in this format. All of the printing and framing for this exciting world exclusive has been done locally, here in Austin by Artworks

Show Dates: November 7th until December 20th, 2014

Opening Reception and Unveiling: Friday 7th November 7pm to 10pm featuring hand crafted cocktails by Austin’s Deep Eddy Vodka and delicious vegan bites from Super Natural Food

All framing for the show has been expertly taken care of by Artworks Gallery
