Stevie Ray Vaughan

Stevie Ray Vaughan was an American blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter best known for revitalizing Texas blues in the 1980s with his fiery technique and soulful intensity. With landmark tracks like “Pride and Joy,” “Texas Flood,” and “Crossfire,” Vaughan fused blistering guitar virtuosity with deep emotional expression, blending blues, rock, and jazz influences. His passionate playing, raw vocals, and magnetic stage presence made him a modern blues icon, inspiring generations of musicians before his life was tragically cut short in 1990.

Fine art print of Stevie Ray Vaughan playing "Number One" by Tracy Anne Hart, taken in September 1989. This image (flipped on its side) was used for the front cover of the "Real Deal" Greatest Hits CD.

Photographer's notes: "To really understand the power of Stevie’s playing you have to look beyond the equipment and into his heart, and at his strong, beautiful hands. In a sacrifice of blood for the blues he frequently gave his calluses, skin, and fingernails to the enormous strings that were an integral part of his sound. He also had a wonderfully warm, tight handshake. My Mother told me never to trust a man with a weak grip. No problems here!
