David Bowie by Alan Messer

from $450.00

Signed fine art photograph of David Bowie by Alan Messer, taken at the Spectrum Arena, Philadelphia, April 28th, 1978

Alan recalls : “I was assigned to photograph Bowie for a cover story in Melody Maker, preceding “The Stage Tour” leg of his worldwide tour in England. We, a Melody Maker journalist, an RCA press officer and me, flew from London to Philadelphia to get the story. Upon arrival, we were told that Bowie preferred not to be photographed performing. I tried, in vain, to meet with him to discuss the situation. I will not miss a picture, so I smuggled my Nikon into the show by stuffing some parts into my cowboy boots and jeans and gave the rest of the camera bits to my compadres. Fortunately, Bowie's team gave us great seats. I got the photograph and it was published on the front page.

I love David Bowie's energy in this picture. The show was fabulous. He was fabulous. My picture is the last verse of FAME. He didn't move much except for this kick at the end of set one, then it was Ziggy and we were in Starman heaven.”
