Book - Goin' Home With The Rolling Stones '66 : Photographs by Gered Mankowitz signed copy

$40.00

In early 1966, the Rolling Stones had cemented their status as rock legends, enjoying considerable wealth and indulging in lavish lifestyles, complete with new homes and luxury cars. Their close friend and official photographer, Gered Mankowitz, was invited to capture a series of "at-home" sessions with each member of the band.

The Stones were wary of unknown photographers invading their privacy, but Mankowitz's work ensured the press were provided with a wealth of images without strangers encroaching on their rock star sanctuaries. For years, Mankowitz stored these photos in supermarket bags under his desk, always wondering why he was holding on to them, never managing to bring himself to throw them out. Now, for the first time, these sessions are compiled and published, showcasing both iconic and unseen shots. These photos capture Mick in a kipper tie, Keith with his Bentley and Lord-of-the-Manor style, Charlie grinning amidst drying lingerie, Brian backed by a hand-painted mural, and Bill in the kitchen with his dog. The images exude a relaxed atmosphere, revealing the band's comfort in Mankowitz’s presence. They convey moments of reflection, intimacy, and humor, as they band reflect an almost innocent astonishment at their own success. Introduced by their then-manager Andrew Loog Oldham, Goin' Home With the Rolling Stones '66 offers a captivating collection with a fresh perspective, skillfully shot.
