Iggy Pop live 1981 by David Corio

from $500.00

Iggy Pop by photographer David Corio, The Rainbow Theatre, London, 11 July 1981

Photographers notes: Iggy was performing in London regularly after the successes of his earlier albums ‘The Idiot’ and particularly ‘Lust For Life’. The Rainbow, a cavernous former cinema in Finsbury Park, North London, was very crowded that night, and there were a lot of photographers there. I remember being stuck on the right of the stage because of this. Usually, I will move around in the photo pit to follow the artist but this show was jam-packed.

Iggy is famous for being the first singer to stage dive but at The Rainbow it would have been suicidal, even for a notoriously reckless performer like him. There was too much of a gap between the orchestra pit and the stage. A hyperactive figure, never still for more than a few moments, Iggy was a challenge to capture on camera – in this shot it looks like he is taking a bit of a breather.
