Marc Bolan T-Rex by Alan Messer
Available for the first time, Marc Bolan performing with T-Rex, The Sundown, Finsbury Park, London, December 22nd, 1972, taken by Alan Messer.
Alan recalls: Marc Bolan was "Glam Rock", the quintessential pop idol who blazed the way for a generation of bands and superstars who followed in his glittering footsteps. I had originally met Marc when I photographed his first band Tyrannosaurus Rex, an acoustic rock duo with percussionist Mickey Finn, at the first Isle Of Wight festival in 1968. Many children and British hippie teenagers loved T. Rex. My sister is one of the screaming fans in this photograph. Marc is on the catwalk taunting the crowd of hundreds of teenage girls wearing coloured T.Rex scarves. Some of the songs were, 'Telegram Sam','Ride A White Swan', 'Jeepster', 'Hot Love' and 'Get It On'. I got up on the stage behind a security guard to get the shot as the girls went crazy. The theatre was later renamed The Rainbow. It was also, The Finsbury Park Astoria.
Note: The Alan Messer logo is not featured on the actual print.
